This intensive three-day workshop is designed to assist teachers in making the most of their time in the classroom. So often teachers attend excellent workshops or learn strategies that they want to implement, but then the hectic day-to-day puts implementation on the back burner.

Add the ever-increasing data-driven diet and the evolving literacy needs of the 21st century student, and teachers are adding more and more to their plate. In this workshop we will closely explore parts of the curriculum teachers can let go, where lessons and skills can merge, and what might need more emphasis. Our focus on the Common Core Standards and new assessments such as PARCC will help teachers make the most of their time in the classroom.

We will look at how a strong focus on writing can be the best use of your time in the classroom.  More writing DOES NOT have to equal more grading, but it DOES lead to improved skills in reading comprehension, critical thinking, creativity and communication. This hands-on workshop will model for teachers exactly how this is done.

This intensive three-day workshop will provide teachers with a possible schedule to implement right away and stick with all year. Walk away with a plan to engage students in every aspect of the English curriculum, all in a schedule that is manageable. Hundreds of ready-to-use lessons and materials give teachers the tools to engage students, while meeting the high demands and expectations in today’s language arts classroom. Many teachers feel this workshop reasserts that what they are doing in class is the right thing. Others feel it is a refreshing paradigm shift in thinking. All agree that it breathes life back into their teaching.

Participant Testimonials

Oh my gosh! What a workshop! It reminds me of one of those infomercials which keeps giving you more and more …”but wait, there’s more…” This workshop had so much useable, applicable material. I can use 100% of what was offered and I certainly can’t say that about every workshop.  —Debbie Hatfield, Marion County

Tamara,Just wanted to let you know that our writing scores ROCKED!  We had an average score of  4.4 – the HIGHEST in our district!  I think the highest average score we’ve ever had!  I actually only had ONE student score below a 4. WhoooHoooooo!   I want to thank you for helping us have the courage to step out and try something new!  Your “program” really works:) Thanks again!   —Gayle Johnson   8th grade Language Arts Sebring Middle School

Six Traits and Beyond

In this two day workshop teachers use an analytical rubric to define and assess the six traits of writing. Through the course of these two days, teachers recognize the instructional worthiness of this model. This workshop goes beyond simply teaching the assessment portion and shows teachers how to realistically incorporate six traits into their classroom. Writer’s notebook, writing workshop, and connections to reading and state tested skills help teachers visualize how this can work efficiently in their classroom. This training provides a year’s worth of ready-to-use lessons.

Participant Testimonials

The Six Traits of Writing, as presented by Tamara Doehring, is very teacher and student friendly. My Six Traits of Writing manual is one of the most utilized manuals I have in my classroom. It is remarkable to walk away from a training session with such a plethora of materials that you can copy for use in class the very next day.

One of the lessons, A-Z writing, produced the kind of student writing that I never would have received had I just done the standard “write about the topic on the board” exercise. I was impressed that one simple strategy could produce such poignant results. Simply put, Tamara knows her stuff. She’s honest and enthusiastic. The most impressive part is that she has actually used the materials she gives you; she’s not just feeding you rhetoric. Mrs. Lorri Welkenbach, Viera High School English

Tamara’s Six Traits training classes are better than great. Any time a new English teacher starts at my school, I encourage them to sign up for one of Tamara’s classes. She is one of the best writing teachers I’ve ever experienced, and her classes are entertaining as well. I’ve NEVER had anyone complain or say her classes were ever “boring.”
